Third-Person Puzzle Shooter
Third-Person Shooter, Puzzle Game – Developed for Nintendo Switch | Exhibited at Insomnia #i72
Phantom Paws is a third-person shooter and puzzle game where players battle mischievous cat ghosts and uncover the secrets of a haunted castle. Developed by the University of Gloucestershire’s MSc Game Development team for the Nintendo Switch, the game was showcased at Insomnia #i72 and will be released on Itch.io.
My Contribution
Prop Artist
During my second year of university, I was contracted by the MSc team as a prop artist. Working within the constraints of the Nintendo Switch, I had to ensure that all assets were fully optimized and compatible with a limited material setup — only base colour, normal, and emission maps were allowed in Substance Painter.
Throughout development, I created a range of gothic-themed props including a grandfather clock, a candelabra, a chandelier, a dual wall sconce, and a classic bureau. As the team prepared for Insomnia, I was also tasked with designing a complex, multi-part vault door. This piece became a major focal point within one of the castle’s key rooms, and required a combination of artistic detail and technical functionality.
